Challenging Racism in Schools: Promoting Inclusivity and Respect

Addressing the Need for Anti-Racism Education

The summer of 2024 has witnessed a series of extremist demonstrations and riots across the UK, highlighting deep-seated racial tensions and divisions. Alarmingly, many young people have been involved in these incidents, underscoring the urgent need for schools to play a pivotal role in fostering inclusivity and challenging racist ideologies.

Educators can face difficulties in addressing racist behaviour and promoting inclusivity, including understanding cultural differences, recognising implicit biases, and effectively intervening in incidents of discrimination. Implementing effective anti-racist strategies is essential for fostering a positive school climate that supports all learners.

What2Learn has identified the need for a focused CPD course to equip teachers with practical tools and knowledge to effectively challenge racism in schools. We are seeking a qualified author to collaborate with us in developing this course, aiming to foster a culture of inclusivity and respect within educational communities.

Suggestions for Course Structure

The course should provide concise and impactful training, emphasising essential strategies that teachers can implement right away. We are aiming for a 1 CPD-hour course as educators are time-poor. With time for assessment, this leaves the need for around 40 minutes of learning time. Below is a suggested course outline but we are happy to take the lead from authors on the most appropriate content. You may already have training materials in a different format which we can convert into a CPD-accredited online course.
